Vedanta University deserves support

It is quite heartening that a hospital is being set up as part of the Vedanta University near Puri-Konark marine drive. This hospital will be upgraded into a full-fledged medical college and will have world class facilities for high quality medical education as well as patient care. The best part, as reported in the media, is that it will cater to the needs of the common man at an affordable cost.
I know that Vedanta University will be a mega university having facilities for 95 academic disciplines and about 100,000 students. It is really good that such an institution is coming up in our state. But instead of supporting this welcome venture why some local villagers are opposing it? Sometime back there was news about local villagers obstructing the construction work of the university project. What the administration is doing? What the Govt is doing? We surely need international standard educational institutions and better facilities if our youth are to face the challenges of a fast changing and highly competitive world. In our state, long neglected by the central Govt, only about 6% of young people can opt for higher education and the less said about the general quality of such education the better. Therefore, there is a crying need for institutions of quality higher education like Vedanta University, IIT, IIM and the like in our state.
